Men are from Mars, Women Are from Venus Essay Example for Free

Men are from Mars, Women Are from Venus Essay This is the title of the 1990’s Best Selling book which tells that Men and Women are diverse in their own regular manners. However, these days, the greater part of the individuals imagine that occasionally this isn't relevant to the two sexes. Double Personality is exceptionally normal and as often as possible found in nowadays. Truth be told, Male Vanity is broadly understanding by a large portion of the men. They are ordinarily portrayed as vain in the manner they take exorbitant measures in ensuring they generally look dazzling in social circumstances, unobtrusively experience the ill effects of feelings of anxiety that are more burdening than what ladies experience for something very similar, as indicated by analysts. A great deal of ladies wonder how do men got fastidious and how to distinguish if a man is as of now getting vain. So here’s a portion of my perceptions in regards to with the reasons why a great deal of men are encountering male vanity and the indications of being vain. Ladies are known for being magnificence cognizant. We truly prefer to have reasonable and white skin, looking provocative and perfect constantly and to be wonderful all around. Also, to accomplish these things, we now and then rely upon magnificence items, natural prescriptions and Derma Clinics. Be that as it may, these days, the ascent of male prepping has prompted men taking twice the same number of electrical things with them as ladies, in light of new investigates. Excellence Products for men are much of the time seen on TV advertisements. They are noting the interest with items smoothed out for the male shopper. Clinique has built up a whole line of healthy skin items solely for men. Their All About Eyes cream decreases the presence of eye puffs, dimness and almost negligible differences. They bring up that the cream-gel really assists hold with peering toward cosmetics set up. Indeed. Were all the while discussing the mens line. For the most part, looking perfect and squeezed is a smart thought. Yet, applying costly lotions, powders and creams when sleep time is something else. Would it be a good idea for us to call it ‘Vanity’? I surmise so. A large portion of the publicity stunts that ladies for the most part read has arrived at men. Particularly regardi ng Diet and Health. We can say that a man that is viewed as vain is likewise an eating routine crazed. A fundamental guy’s exercises to keep up his great wellbeing like games, balance diet and difficult work are sufficient to counterbalance a typical eating regimen. Be that as it may, if a man thinks about yoga, abdominal muscle cruncher, pilates or a person who works for better biceps have no reason for greater biceps other than self-adoration isn't ordinary any longer. As far as their external looks, Fashion and mainstream society have a great deal to do with the change. The ultra-thin outline and thin pants that hit the high-design world quite a long while back have penetrated men’s offices in standard stores like Banana Republic and Old Navy. Also, due to internet based life sites like Facebook and Twitter, men continually are stood up to with photographs of fit male celebs. Men like to satisfy a specific norm, a specific degree of giving pay. The picture of a vocation, be that as it may, has gotten more significant than the genuine work. Today, men look for spotless , trained, considerate, inactive employments. Fathers used to be fire fighters, ranchers and development laborers, which implied getting their hands filthy. Plastic medical procedure facilities are revealing a flood in business from men looking for some assistance to fight off the maturing procedure. What's more, men arent simply keen on looking more youthful, yet additionally more slender and progressively cleaned. It is nothing unexpected then that as indicated by the American Society for Esthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), almost 171,000 Americans younger than 18, had some type of plastic medical procedure in 2000 with the most widely recognized activity being rhinoplasty or medical procedure to change the size or state of the nose. Joshua Parilla, 25 years of age and a call place operator was inquired as to whether he gives a few indications of being vain as what individuals had see to him. What's more, he answered, â€Å"I visit the Parlor two times per month since I need to have an alternate styles of hair style. At that po int I visit a back rub spa in any event once per month as a prize for myself each time I get my month to month pay. Also, now and again I went to a Derma Clinic to keep up my great skin. Furthermore, I should concede it.† Not just the standard men experienced Vanity yet additionally the once who we didn't hope to be vain. I had watched a show named Palaban, facilitated by Mareng Winnie Monsod, Malou Mangahas and Miriam Quiambao. Palaban examines male vanity with Dr. Kho, on-screen character model Alfred Vargas, Navotas Mayor Toby Tingco, corrective specialist Dr. Manny Calayan and Carole Sarthou of statistical surveying firm Synovate Philippines. Ladies swoon over them and a portion of their privileged insights are routine that incorporates consistently setting off to the rec center, utilization of healthy skin items, getting a hot oil treatment, and in any event, having corrective laser treatment. Some of them have taken to stuffing their pack with their own â€Å"kikay unit (vanity pack). They use items proposed for ladies as well. So now, who says no one but ladies can be vain? It appears that Vanity really changed the name of men. Furthermore, the ascent of Male Grooming has changed the purpose of perspectives on numerous individuals. Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus yet we are on Earth so there’s no limits here. Personal growth is something worth being thankful for as it causes us to feel progressively certain when we face the world. Nonetheless, our certainty is and ought to consistently be in our own selves as people.

The Cost of Human Rights essays

The Cost of Human Rights expositions In Tibet Chinese authorities gouge out a keeps an eye on eyes and afterward toss him from the top of Tibets holiest altar. In the mean time somewhere else in the town a dad and girl are compelled to engage in sexual relations while individuals from the Chinese armed force watch and cheer on (Chang, 30). China has disregarded arrangements they have marked with Tibet and terrible universal wrongdoings are being dedicated every day. Nations will freely censure and take secret activities against China. In any case, they dread in the event that they take a progressively dynamic position against China they could lose exchange relations with China. For right around 2,000 years Tibet has existed as a self-governing country. Just twice in the countrys history have they been exposed to run by pariahs (Chang, 31). On October seventh, 1950 eighty thousand soldiers of the Peoples Liberation Army of China attacked Tibet trying to incorporate Tibet with China. The Tibetan armed force was dwarfed just as overwhelmed and after twelve days Ngabo Ngawang Jigme, Tibetan Provincial Governor, gave up to the Chinese government (Cavendish). The understanding the two heads marked expressed, the Tibetan government could keep their capacities and rights, including a military (Dalai Lama Says). Executive Mao even urged the Tibetans to hold the Tibetan banner. This maintenance of the Tibetan banner obviously outlined that China recognizes that Tibet is a free nation and not an extension of China. The bargain additionally specified that Tibet would have self-rule, that the focal government would not change the current political framework or the built up status, capacities and forces of the Dalai Lama, that opportunity of strict conviction would be maintained (Dalai Lama Says). In this way as indicated by the settlement Tibet would stay a sovereign state. Notwithstanding, China didn't maintain its finish of the arrangement and has exposed Tibet to socialist principle, totally modifying Tibetan lifestyle. ... <!

Quantifying Angst

Quantifying Angst Three weeks ago in 6.009 (Fundamentals of Programming), we had to code a lab called Autocomplete. It was about implementing a data structure called a Trie (pronounced either “try” or “tree” depending on who you ask), which is “a type of search tree that stores an associative array (a mapping from keys to values).” One of the functions that we had to implement takes in any text file and spits out a list of tuples of all the words in that file and their respective frequencies of occurrence. So if the input to this function is a text file that contains: “hi hi hi hi hi bye bye” then this will be the output: [(“hi”, 5), (“bye”, 2)] After we submitted the lab, we thought about the power of this function and what we can do with it! What if we can somehow make our text messages into a text file and feed it into this function to see what words we use most frequently in our day to day lives?! We immediately thought of doing this to the group chat we have with our friend Charlotte M. ‘20, because it is a truly angsty experience that has been in the works for almost a year prime real estate for data analysis! When we suggested this idea to Charlotte, she actually started jumping up and down and did her omgomgomg-I’m-so-excited hand gesture. Then Allan did his omgomgomg-I’m-so-excited hand gesture. Then Charlotte’s friend, Katie O. ‘19, commented on our hand gestures, since she works in a lab that analyzes hand gestures. Danny was working on 18.03 and looked up confused by all the hand gestures and talk surrounding them. This school is full of wonderfully nerdy people if that wasn’t clear yet. The first step was figuring out how to turn our facebook messenger chat into a text file. We looked this up and apparently you can download all of your facebook data (including all of your messenger chats) super easily! After it downloaded, and we found the right file in the downloaded folder, all we had to do was convert it (since it downloaded as html from facebook). We just used an online converter for this. Then, we put the text file into the correct directory on one of our laptops so that our lab file with the function would have access to it, used terminal to run the function, and got the data! The output that we got was an extremely long list of ALL the unique words we ever used in our group chat. This is a small screenshot of what part of the data initially looked like. We cant include the code for the function we used to get this data, because that would be the solution to a pset that will probably be reused in the future. But we can include and explain the code that we used to make this above ugly and hard-to-read data into pretty and informative visual representations! After thinking about what we could get from this data set, we decided it would be cool to pick certain phrases that we use often and graph the frequency of their multiple variations. Take the above image. At just a glance, you can see multiple variations of aaahhhhhh. So we wanted to make a graph showing how frequently each of those variations occur. Using  these  websites  as reference, we made the code below to make pie charts! Lines 553, 554, and 555 are how we filtered the data to get all the variations of aahhhh. To get all the other graphs, we would just change the if statements of those three lines of code to include the prefixes of the words we were graphing, and also to filter out words with particular letters that we did not want (like how the if statement on line 555 is filtering out the words with ts). We also thought about what information to display where, and decided that the legend would have both the word and its raw frequency (how many times it was actually used), and the pie chart would show the percentage that that particular variation of the word occured. The legend labels were done with lines 556 and 557. The pie chart percentages were done with lines 568 576. Now get ready, because we’re about to serve you some *quantified* angst. we scream a lot these omgs are accompanied by hand gestures of course so many nos we are a patient bunch this graph literally says nothing about us, except that we need to get more creative and frequent in our whom- construction and usage also its amusing to see a graph that is 100% whomstve yeah can be used in a pretty chill way. we dont use it that way we are easily amazed lol/rip is a gem its also interesting that so many seemingly random variations of lol, like lololol and lolol were used so frequently we discuss cute wholesome things and awwww accordingly a very fun word to say/use tbh   it makes us happy to see that we yeesss and yaassss more frequently than nooo. Its around a 13:1 yes/yas to nooo ratio! Hopefully this gave you some insight into our angsty group chat. Post Tagged #6.009

Hobbes vs the Fool Free Essays

Hobbes vs the Fool In Hobbes case, justice is characterized supporting a covenant, and for those who shatter their covenant will be penalized accordingly. The fool first expresses his assertion having â€Å"said in his heart: ‘there is no such thing as justice’† (L p. I ch: xv [4]). We will write a custom essay sample on Hobbes vs the Fool or any similar topic only for you Order Now If there are no covenants to be broken, this would signify neither just or unjust actions exist. The fool by rejecting the reality of fairness is rejecting the achievement of covenants in general, yet as we currently understand from our own know-how, the fool’s contention is unsound. In every day interactions persons manage in diverse examples support their covenants. Here, Hobbes makes the fool’s place appear blatantly untrue for its conspicuous betrayal of the genuine world. Yet, as he extends, it is not the case that the fool refutes the reality of fairness in this way. He answers, â€Å"[the fool] does not therein refute that there be covenants and that are occasionally broken, occasionally kept, and that such break of them may be called injustice, and the observance of them justice† (L p. I ch: xv [4]). However the fool accepts as factual that it is precisely his right of the covenant, one made in evolving part of a commonwealth, that it is flawlessly in good standing to better ones place even if he will take from his or another covenant. The period covenant from Hobbes viewpoint identifies a kind of agreement in which both parties either acquiesce to fulfill their part, one presently and the other in the future, or both at a subsequent time. This is distinct from a normal agreement in which both parties proceed presently, neither having the possibility to falsify their activities from their agreement. Hobbes identifies a covenant’s susceptibility to deceitful agreement, when one or both parties acquiesces to their part with shady aims, or when one or both parties makes a legitimate responsibility and subsequent end up shattering it. For the fool, if he has a possibility to better himself in any way whatsoever he will manage so despite of any covenant made. But the fool solidly accepts as factual that he has the right to shatter one covenant if he feels that he has revealed himself to strike needlessly increasing his vulnerability as the covenant continues. Hobbes composes as the fool saying â€Å"every man’s conservation and contentment being pledged to his own care, there could be no cause why every man might not manage what he considered conduced thereunto, and thus furthermore to make or not make, hold or not hold, covenants was not contrary to cause, when it conduced to one’s benefit† (L p. I ch: xv [4]). From the fool’s viewpoint it is only sane to shatter covenant with other ones, being foes with all other ones rather than of holding covenants with those who might traverse him in a world where every individual is just seeking to survive. At this issue protecting against of one’s own life as well as exploitation of other ones, premier in numerous situations to their decrease of life, are revealed with some rationale. Hobbes subsequent recounts the likely situation of vying persons and their procedure of attack. Hobbes sees the right of the one-by-one to manage anything is essential to endure, not less than while dwelling inside a State of Nature and Ware, ethics in a sense non-existent. Hobbes refutes the fool, carrying the reality of fairness inside a commonwealth. It is the individual’s right as it is recounted in the State of Nature and Subsequently the State of War of which we are all a part, as long as we subsist without affirmation on and acknowledgement of a mutual sovereign, is therefor habitually called into inquiry while at the identical time identified and supported. Hobbes states â€Å"in a status of conflict wherein every man to every man is an foe, there is no man can wish by his own power or wit to fight back himself from decimation without the assist of confederates† (L p. I ch: xv [5]). Thus in eager to eliminate one’s self from a state of conflict, banding simultaneously is the only salvation and this needs covenant finally producing in a commonwealth. For Hobbes, the less sensible is that considered which adds one to live as an one-by-one contrary to all other ones, shattering covenants or producing none. The more sensible considered then: acknowledging reality as part of a assembly of others; sustaining some allowance of fairness, some reality in affirmation between young individuals under a mutual rule. Some decisive affirmation upon the situation of interactions of persons should be made, identifying a widespread power distinct and overhead the body of the assembly, and more mighty than any one-by-one so as to sustain control. In confederacy Hobbes contends, power and security can be discovered, asserting â€Å"he affirms he conceives it cause to deceive those that assist him can in cause anticipate no other entails of security than what can be had from his own lone power† (L p. I ch: xv [5]). Here, Hobbes weighs the scale between the just and the unjust, the one-by-one and the assembly, honesty and self-centred cunning, revealing the benefit of calm over war. The fool is only involved in short viewed goals, instant retribution for one’s activities, which live mostly in the state of nature. Hobbes considers the larger advantage of relying on other ones, or not less than living in a assembly with a widespread aim contending that living inside a commonwealth is the favorable alternative because the advantages outweigh the loss. He considers the essential situation for the reality of just and unjust actions when he composes, â€Å"there should be some coercive power to compel men identically to the presentation of their covenants†¦ †¦ and to make good that propriety which by mutual agreement men come by, in recompense of the universal right they abandon; and such power there is no one before the erection of a commonwealth† (L p. I ch: xv [3]). Hobbes states that attaining the â€Å"secure and perpetual felicity of heaven† is vein, â€Å"frivolous†, in   a State of Nature, â€Å"there being but one way imaginable, and that is not shattering, but holding of covenant† (L p. I ch: xv [6]). This is his direct objection to the fools fondness for completely acknowledging and exploiting freezing hard individualism. He conceives that not anything will convey us out of a State of Nature and War other than mutual acknowledgement of a sovereign power which can, because of it’s power, preside over all men (in commonwealth) such that no one-by-one see’s it in his better concern to disobey. This salvation for man, without rejecting that he actions for the advantage of himself, Hobbes explains:   â€Å"The last origin, end or conceive of men (who routinely love liberty and dominion over others) in the introduction of that restraint upon themselves in which we glimpse them reside in commonwealths is the foresight of their own preservation, and of a more contented life thereby; that is to state, of getting themselves out from that sad status of conflict, which is inevitably consequent†¦ †¦ to the natural passions of men, when there is no evident power to hold them in awe, and bind them by worry of penalty to the resentation of their covenants and fact of those regulations of environment set down in the fourteenth and fifteenth chapters. † (L p. II ch: xvii [1]) Here, Hobbes recounts the trade off. One should vitally stop certain one-by-one privileges, and in come back are exempt from a state of war. The steadiness of the commonwealth, of the current face t of calm, and likewise of the sovereign are all reliant upon this â€Å"awe† Hobbes converses about and the worry which is essential for binding one to the fulfillment of covenant. He contends that acquiescing to covenant out of worry of one’s own life, deserves that one should fulfill it, saying that in â€Å"covenant to yield ransom, or service, for my life, to an foe [in the state of Nature], I am compelled by it† (L p. I ch: xiv [27]). Hobbes indicates the untrue compromise that in dealing away some of you’re right to manage anything you delight, so much as it is permitted in preservation of you’re life in the State of Nature, which has no restrict, you rather than gain worry, not only of the sovereign and it’s direct, but furthermore a worry about those round you who may select to exploit your believe in justice. In the ‘natural’ state worry is glimpsed as essential for the reasonable and tired to sustain protecting against of their life. When matching the State of Nature, to that of a commonwealth we glimpse worry lives non the less, when there is a ruling sovereign. Fear is like the equipment which drives the motor of the commonwealth, which Hobbes states defends contrary to a state of war. This worry he states, is the â€Å"terror of some penalty larger than the advantage they anticipate by the break of their covenant† (L p. I ch: xv [3]). However, worry lives as an absolutely crucial survival constituent in the State of Nature as well, and therefore is not certain thing profited or swapped in justice. Hobbes devotes us the idea of The Third Law of Nature to classify truth, saying that because of that â€Å"which we are obliged to move to another such privileges, being kept, hinder the calm of mankind†¦ †¦ [and thus] men present their covenants made, without which covenants are in vain†¦ and the right of all men to all things residual, we are still in a status of war† ( L p. I ch: xv [1]). Either it is fairness living in a state of calm, or not anything just or unjust living in a state of war. In a very considerable way, the fool presents Hobbes with a grappling colleague, one who can both articulate the ‘other side’ of what he is saying, but furthermore extends to be that sticker in his neck which he can’t assist but fiddle with, its stubbornness departing a fee ling of nearly anxious discomfort. It is unclear at times if Hobbes really contends with the fool or contrary to him, as Edwin Curley remarks â€Å"The place Hobbes ascribes to the fool is very like the one Grotius ascribes to Carneades, who he takes as agent of those who refute natural law. Since Hobbes himself had appeared to be close to carneades’ place in Dcv I, 10 (proclaiming that ‘in the state of environment earnings is the assess of right’)† (L p. I ch: xv [4] 2 ). Ontario Teachers Strike Essays - Ontario, Education,

Ontario Teachers Strike Education is probably the most important resource in our society. The education System determines our future, by educating the youngest segment of our population. For this reason, it should be of great concern when there is a problem or an issue like a Teachers' strike. The Ontario teachers' strike that began on Monday October 27 involves 126,000 teachers and affects 2.1 Million students in the province. This strike is North America's largest, right ahead of the 1975 New York City strike when 60,000 teachers walked off the job . The main issue of debate is over Bill 160, which is all about who holds The Power to set education policy in the province of Ontario. Bill 160 centralizes control of the education system, putting it in the hands of the provincial government. It eliminates the authority of school boards and teachers' unions to set classroom and teaching conditions locally through collective bargaining. The bill allows the government to regulate class sizes, education property tax rates, teachers' preparation time, the amount of time teachers and students spend in school and the use of non-certified instructors. The issue is whether teachers should have a role in educational reform. The strike is illegal, because most of the te! achers have existing contracts. Ontario premier Mike Harris said that reforms are needed to stop a decline in student performance. Although the same government announced that the bill will allow the education ministry to cut 7,000 teaching jobs and up to $700 million from the $14-billion education budget. The strike is not a typical one, because it's not really a labor issue. It's not about teachers fighting a school board over a collective bargaining agreement. It's a strike protesting against the Harris government and Bill 160. While the teachers want to protest Bill 160, they also have an obligation to teach their Students. Many teachers are caught in this dilemma; do you go to the classroom, or do you go to the wall to defend education? Are teachers responsible first and foremost for their students or should they be loyal to the union? Many teachers in Ontario feel that they should be there for their students, although they're Scared To cross the picket line. Eileen Lennon, president of the Ontario Teachers Federation, has said that teachers who cross picket lines won't be sanctioned. However, they might take heat from individual co-workers when they get back on the job. The Teachers feel that they have to show solidarity with the union, or they will be alienate! d. "Parents should be on the alert that their schools may be closed in the very near future," Lennon said. "When we do it, it will be province wide." Union members met with education minister Dave Johnson over changes to Bill 160, although nothing was resolved. Johnson said he was discouraged following a one-hour meeting with representatives of the five major teachers' unions. He said he would not make changes the unions demanded. "I was presented with a list of issues to pull out of Bill 160," Johnson said. "I've been presented with an ultimatum to take these sections out of Bill 160 and further discussions, according to the Ontario Teachers' Federation, are not able to take place until those sections are taken out of the bill." Union leaders said they asked Johnson to remove some provisions that would allow the province to use non-certified teachers in classrooms and to regulate class size, teacher preparation time and the amount of time teachers spend in the classroom. Johnson says the changes are necessary to improve the quality of education. The government and the unions have each spent over 1 million dollars in advertising, trying to win over the support of the people of Ontario. The most recent polls show that the unions have a slight edge over the government as they prepared for the illegal strike. Though the longer the strike lasts, the opinion will shift to the government. "The question is: How long will people put up with the inconvenience in light of the over-arching motives? "Right now, tone and character become extremely important." Opinion on the issue is constantly changing, with a shift of two or three percentage points a day

A Beautiful Mind Essay

A Beautiful Mind Essay A Beautiful Mind Essay â€Å"Imagine if you suddenly learned that the people, the places, the moments most important to you were not gone, not dead, but worse had never been. What kind of hell would that be?† A Beautiful Mind (2001) For John Nash, living with the diagnosis of schizophrenia meant this tormenting battle of delusion versus reality would be fought for a lifetime. By definition, schizophrenia is a devastating brain disorder that affects a person’s thinking, language, emotions, social behavior, and ability to perceive reality accurately. (Halter p.200) While the disease manifests itself differently among age groups, all individuals will experience at least one psychotic symptom which may include hallucinations, delusions and/or disorganized speech. (Halter p.202) In addition, sufferers may neglect hygiene, nutrition, be socially awkward or eccentric and have experience greater anxiety, depression and decreased concentration. Substance abuse is also associated with schizophrenia and nicotine dependence rates range between 70%-90% for patients. Delusions are false fixed beliefs that cannot be corrected by reasoning. The most common types of delusions are persecutory, grandiose, or those involving religious or hypochondriacal ideas. (Halter p.204-205) Hallucinations are also a common symptom among those who have schizophrenia. Auditory hallucinations are experienced by 60% of people with the disease at some time during their lives. (Halter p. 207) The scientific consensus is that the disease occurs when multiple inherited gene abnormalities combine with nongenetic factors such as viral infections, stressors, or birth injuries, altering the structure of the brain, affecting the brain’s neurotransmitter systems and/or injuring the brain directly. (Halter p. 202) In the movie A Beautiful Mind, we are given a glimpse into the life of John Nash, a world- renowned mathematician who is also a victim of schizophrenia. Although John Nash is ultimately rewarded with the Nobel Prize for his work, it is not an easy journey for him or his family. The beginning of the movie portrays Mr. Nash as an eager minded student who triumphantly enters Princeton University as a recipient of the Carnegie Prize, an esteemed award for mathematics. We notice his slightly awkward way of dealing with classmates and with women. We meet his intellectual rival, Martin Hansen who challenges him to a game of Go. Nash does not win the game and is greatly trouble by this. He explains, â€Å"I had the first move. My play was perfect. The game is flawed.† A Beautiful Mind (2001). Despite his less than comfortable presence around people, Nash does forge a friendship with Martin, Sol and Bender. These three young men are also math and science students who later aid him in his work. Nash displays an immense passion for work that bleeds into every aspect of his life. Whether in his dorm room drawing on the window or at local pub contemplating how to get everyone a date, his mind is constantly in motion. Nash also has a roommate during his years at Princeton. When first meeting Charles Herman, it is easy for the audience to be drawn to his charismatic persona and devotion to John. The interaction between the two is reminiscent of college roommates at any institution as they share laughs, struggles and victories. Nash later admits that Charles was his best friend over the years. While at Princeton, Nash must find an original idea for his thesis paper before he can begin work. The pressure is enormous to do so before anyone else. Nash is successful in this venture with his discovery of the game theory. He gains the respect of Martin, his former rival and begins work with Sol and Bender. This type of mathematical economics, impacts lives even today. Following hi s work at Princeton, he accepts a job at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is during this time he meets Alicia Larde. Alicia is a graduate student in his class who takes an interest and even asks him to

A van will be allocated distributing the stock to the targeted market well in time to save the customers from any inconvenience. Wholesalers will further distribute it to the resellers and finally the consumer will buy it. Company will hire the physical distribution firms that will also help it to move their stock from their point of origin to their final destination. The orders would be taken on internet or by the financial intermediaries like banks, credit companies, insurance companies, and other related units that help finance transactions or insure against the threats linked with buying and selling of product. Motivation is a very significant part of any sporting performance at any level Essay

â€Å"We are going to need big characters out there who can dig deep and show real fight and courage.† (Clive Woodward) Motivation is a very significant part of any sporting performance at any level. Motivation can be defined as, ‘a physiological drive to fulfil a particular need’ (Davis et al, 1991). Sporting performers can either be intrinsically or extrinsically motivated. This is dependent on what the sportsman is motivated by. Intrinsic can be defined as, ‘pure love of the sport’ (Wesson et al, 2000). This would probably apply more to beginners and novices because you are some what interested in the sport, whereas elite athletes and professionals are often extrinsically motivated as there are big prizes to be one when sport is done to an elite level. As suggested by Davis et al,1998 ‘extrinsic motivation stems from other people, through positive and negative reinforcement, and from tangible rewards such as trophies and money.’ There are a few theories that are linked to motivation concerning arousal and its influence on a participant’s performance. The Drive Theory (Hull, 1943) suggests that as the level of arousal increases the quality of the performance should increase. This means that the arousal and performance are directly proportional, this is very true to a certain extent however it does have a limitation as it does not take into consideration ‘over arousal’ which would have an effect on the performance. A theory that did take this into consideration is the inverted – U Hypothesis (Yerkes and Dodson, 1908). This theory suggested that increased arousal improves performance only to a certain point after which further increased levels of arousal will have an adverse effect. As you can see from the Inverted – U Hypothesis over arousal causes performance levels to drop. A – This is when the participant is under aroused is not at optimum performance. B – This is the where the participant is at optimum arousal level and is performing to the best of his/her ability. C – This where the participant is over aroused and again not performing to his potential. Most sports require different levels of arousal, for example a fine skilled sport like snooker would require very low levels of arousal whereas a gross skilled sport like boxing would require a very high level of arousal. For this reason a graph called the Inverted – U theory and Task Type was created. The inverted – U are specific for different sports: A – a fine skilled sport such as snooker. B – a moderate skilled sport such as football. C – a gross skilled sport such as boxing. The small red box at the top of each inverted – U is the ‘zoof’ (). There are two categories that people fit into. These include NaF (need to avoid failure) and NAch (need to achieve). A NaF person is a person who is motivated to avoid failure in order not to experience the feelings of shame or humiliation that will result if failure occurs. This person introvert and would be withdrawn, nervous and would not appreciate feedback. Whereas a HAch person is someone who is motivated to achieve success for the feeling of pride and satisfaction they will experience, this person is lightly to be a extravert and would be out-going, enthusiastic and would like feedback. There are different ways to motivate these two types of people. For a NAch person, if wanted to keep them motivated you would give lots of feedback and be quite critical about their performance, this is because in the long run it would aid performance. You would also set task orientating goals and maybe make him/her some sort of leader. Internal factors are usually what motivate a NAch person. For a NaF person you would dwell on the positive points of his/her performance, you would also set very easily reachable goals to avoid any failure and ultimately to boost confidents. External factor are usually what motivates a NaF person. To set goals there is a specific process that is devise specially to ensure not to demotivate the participant. Specific – to the sport, the individual or the level at which the sport is bei being performed. Measurable – to be able to measure the progress towards achieving the goals.
